This past summer, my boyfriend and I took a short trip to Palm Springs for a mini-vacation. Only a month before, my boyfriend started experiencing symptoms of an autoimmune disease and we wanted a few days to relax after all the stress of trying to figure out exactly what he had and all the testing he had undergone. However, our plans almost got derailed the week we were supposed to leave.
His doctor rescheduled his last MRI test to the day we were leaving for Palm Springs. So instead of leaving in the morning or early afternoon, we now had to postpone our departure until after the test. Needless to say it wasn't exactly a quick in-and-out situation.

When we got to the hospital, I also realized both of our back tail-lights were out. Since we were going to be driving at night, we couldn't exactly leave without fixing those. So, I had to drive to the nearest auto parts store, buy the bulbs and have them installed while my boyfriend was getting his MRI done.
Then, something went wrong with his test, which made him sick, and the MRI technician told us they might not have even gotten an adequate image.
Despite the challenges in getting there, it was well worth the trip.
Luckily, we were able to get out of there by around 9:00 p.m., and with a two hour drive, we got to our hotel around 11:00 that night. I felt thankful we made it at all because the rest of our trip was amazing and relaxing. We lounged in our hotel's pool, went to Joshua Tree National Park, visited a water park, went to a casino and ate delicious Thai food.
In short, it was exactly what we needed after the chaos of the day and all we had gone through to finally get his diagnosis. Despite the challenges in getting there, it was well worth the trip. If anything, this experience taught me that everything works out in the end, and sometimes having a few obstacles along the way makes the reward that much sweeter.
