Explore this list for inspiration as you plan a memorable couples trip to India!
The Taj Mahal, Agra
The Taj Mahal tops many bucket lists and for good reason! One of the seven wonders of the world, the beauty of the white marble building decorated with stunning inlays of jasper, jade and yellow marble are a sight to behold! The Taj is perhaps the most recognizable monument in all of India and is a must-see when visiting. While it is sure to be crowded when you visit, arriving early is best and not only means fewer tourists, but also nice lighting and less heat. Do be prepared that there are separate gates for men and women, and the men’s line usually goes a bit faster, so you will have to go through separately and then find a meeting place on the other side. After your visit, grab a cup at Cafe Coffee Day (a chain cafe in India) which is nearby the airconditioned seating area. This provides a nice respite and a good recharge to fuel the rest of your exploring in Agra. If you have time, visit the Moonlight Garden (Mehtab Bagh) across the river for a nice view of the Taj Majal without all the crowds.
Auli
If you are an active couple with dreams of skiing the Himalayas, then the resort city of Auli might be up your alley. Surrounded by the Nar Parvat and Nanda Devi mountains, the city is one of the top ski resorts in the country and is a veritable winter wonderland during the cold months. Auli is a hill station and, in addition to skiing, there is trekking options available. We recommend trekking to Gurson Bugyal for views you are sure to remember. Another way to enjoy the views around Auli is by cable car. There are two different cable car rides in Auli. This includes an enclosed cable car from Joshimath to Auli and then a chair car ride from GMNV to Auli. Both offer phenomenal views no matter the time of year. This is not all Auli offers. Those who are looking to get in touch with their spiritual side will love to a visit to the Badrinath temple.
If you're looking to embrace Spanish culture these things to do in Barcelona will allow you to experience the true magic of the city.
Jaipur
The capital city of Rajesthan, Jaipur is an enchanting city that evokes the royals that once ruled the area. Often called the “Pink City” for the color of many of its historic buildings, the opulent town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site chock full of well-preserved forts and palaces with the highlight being the colonnaded City Palace complex. Spend a few hours exploring the palace’s courtyards, gardens and museums and imagine what it might be like to live like royalty. The royal family still lives in part of the complex! There are many other historic buildings to explore in Jaipur, including the Nahargarh Fort which is a fantastic place to watch the sunset with the one you love.
Goa
While Goa is famous for its nightlife, the beaches certainly will not disappoint those couples who like things a bit quieter. As it was a former colonial settlement, in Goa you will find many remnants of colonial Portuguese architecture, especially some very nicely preserved churches from 17 century. If you like the party life, check out the popular areas of Baga and Palolem. Alternatively, if you just want to enjoy a stretch of beautiful sand and watch the stars with your someone special, then check out the more laidback fishing villages nearby such as Agonda. There is also plenty of opportunities to take a yoga class or two if that is your sort of thing.
Havelock Island
If ease of access is not a concern, then Havelock Island should be at the top of your list for places in India to visit as a couple. A relatively secluded island in the Andaman Sea, Havelock Island offers stunning beaches with silky smooth sand, gorgeous azure water and some of the best diving in the region. Spend the day exploring the coral reefs off of Elephant Beach and follow it with a relaxing and romantic time, watching the sunset on Radhanagar Beach. The interior is forested and home to interesting birds and other wildlife offering even more chances to explore.
Thailand holidays are full of whatever you please. There's something for young travelers, family vacationers, and everyone in between.
Delhi
Delhi, India’s sprawling capital may not be the most romantic destination on our list, but it is a must-see nonetheless. Part of the typical tourist triangle along with Agra and Jaipur, the city is steeped in history but becoming more modern all the time, offering interesting sites, smells, sounds and surprising juxtapositions of new and old. Likely to leave you feeling a bit crazy at times, the city can be a overwhelming, but it really should not be missed, even if only for a few days at the front or back end of your trip. Highlights include the winding lanes of Old Delhi, the Red Fort, Humayan’s Tomb (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the Qutub Minar monument and the Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple, the world’s largest Hindu temple.
Rishikesh
Whether you are a devoted yogi or just a wannabe, the city of Rishikesh in the Himalayan foothills is famous as a center for practicing and studying yoga and meditation. The Ganges River runs alongside the town and there are many temples and ashrams that line its banks, especially in the area just upstream from town as the river is thought to be holy. You will have to try out some yoga and meditation during your visit to the Yoga Capital, however there is also plenty of opportunity to get active and enjoy the outdoors with the beautiful forested hills and the fast-flowing Ganges surrounding Rishikesh making the town a base for those who enjoy adventure sports.
